I suspect Ill have to get my license the Mexican way (finagle it somehow). I hear that the guys in the van on campus were total pricks and that I should have it easier in town. Ill try it.

Ive run into problems before due to the fact that Ive had two name changes in my life (one due to marriage and the other was a personal decision). The paperwork I have with me is problematic (once because it was not apostilled and because they were stamped"certifed copy" _ they just saw "copy" and wigged).

I couple of my students study law and suggested that I go to my embassy and get something from them stating that name X, name Y and name Z all designate the same person. I can then take that document to the court here to have it "something" and that should serve me in the future...

Sounds like its worth a shot.

Argentines, despite their italian heritage, are pretty chilled, although the word you hear most frequently in regards of argentine girls is 'histerica'. Never had any experience with this as my girlf's chilean but i'm assured they are completely nuts.

It's really only at the football when people get mad here. Last game i went to, the River Plate fans started smashing their own stadium in order to throw rocks at the visiting Sao Paolo fans. Then the police fired tear gas and we had to leg it before the riot police waded in.

This is totally different to the experience i had in Uruguay last week when i went to watch the Aussies play Uruguay in the world cup play off-there were about 150 aussies and 75000 Uruguayans and we were mixed in with the uruguayan fans and there wasn't even a hint of trouble. uruguayans are well known to be much friendlier and more relaxed than argentines in all aspects of life, but this was my first experience of it. I've seen Argentines on the verge of exploding but can't imagine it of a Uruguayan (although of course it happens...)

montevideo is an awesome city by the way, like buenos aires on dope. Very chilled.

also, congrats to the aussies on qualifying for the world cup. Looking forward to getting drawn in the same group and thrashing you lot in germany.

My landlady was a psycho. She goes into my room every time I leave. I left for 5 minutes to buy some food, and when I got back, she asked me why I had two cups in my room. (She assumed I'd had someone in my room.) I asked her why she went into my room every time I left, and she just flew into this pyschotic rage. It was really insane.

I had to cancel my classes to protect my stuff from that mad cow. She was about to grab all my stuff and start throwing it. I called a taxi and pack up my stuff while I listened to her constant insults and screams.

That's the only angry Argentine that I've seen.

Actually Loz, I think you have to admit that we Aussies aren't exactly renowned for our brilliance at soccer... Not sure I really care, too busy counting down to the start of the new AFL season. Razz

Yikes, YanquiQuilme�o that's scary! Actually...are you sure your landlady wasn't French? A few of the people at my school here in Paris seem to have had similar experiences! Shocked

Had a military lawyer question me about a test score once. She got right into my face screaming "Why, Why, Why"? I replied calmly that if she didn't take about two steps back (I spent 7 years in the Marine Corps), she might need some assistance breathing. Two steps later she seemed to calm down. Funny thing, this was at a government academy for diplomat trainees.....don't think she made the cut.

Been living in Peru for 8 months now and Ive seen my fair share of people losing it. Ive heard Peruvians have quite a temper sometimes...that was confirmed when I was walking a block away from the Plaza de Armas in Lima, some people were obviously drunk sitting on the street. One guy just randomly flipped out and threw a half full bottle of beer at this guys head, but hit the wall centimeters from his head. I quickly crossed the road!!! Another time while pulling out from a side passage on the bus we almost hit this car. Stopping right next to the car at the next traffic light, the 2 drivers got into a discussion. Pretty normal I thought, but when we went to go he blocked the way and got out of his car to take a couple of swings at the bus driver! Ive realised that I should try my best not to annoy a Peruvian...
