Hi all,
I came across this forum from a classmate of mine and I was wondering if I needed to get a different certification.
You see I have 11 years in K-12 education with ESL certification. I am presently a counselor and I have a masters in education and grad hours in Adult Learning. Right now I'm a Ph.D student in Ed. Tech. So here's the question.. would my ESL certification that I earned as a Texas teacher work overseas? I obviously have classroom experience and work with Adults including Turks (my husband is a Turk).
I wanted to spend a little time over there, not a whole year while I'm working on my PhD.
Is that possible? I noticed that there was the posting about the summer of 2006 and that would great because of my full time job and I don't know if I would like it (the other post about black teachers - I'm black). I don't want to commit for a long time.
That's a lot of questions but I was told that this was the place to get answers and meet nice people.
thanks
T. Dilek
PS... if there are typos .. oops |

Very interesting, this sudden wave of black females heading to Turkey...
Tweaka, I'm sure your ESL certification will suffice for employers in Turkey. Yes, you can find teaching contracts shorter than one year -- My first contract in Istanbul was for six months. As a certified teacher and PhD candidate, have you looked into a possible teaching exchange that would land you in Turkey through your current job or study program? I teach at a university in France, and posts like mine are commonly filled by such exchanges.
As for rethinking Turkey just because of your color (re: your other post), you shouldn't. Although I found the staring beyond tiresome, it was overall an enriching experience. Would your Turkish husband be with you? |

You know this just happened to come up recently. I'm BURNT out on my present job and wanted to be able to take some "time off". I'm in educational tech for my PhD.
I seriously doubt that my school district would have any ties with Turkey, we're an urban district in Houston, TX.
What type of position do you hold? Perhaps I could look for something like that in turkey.
Thanks for your input.
