Good luck in Crdoba. The student residences should be a great option for you. They should all be emptying out now because the year is winding down. Here in Quilmes (actually Bernal) there are dozens of private student residences that with empty rooms. I am paying $230 pesos per month, and this is in Bernal, the wealthy residential district of Quilmes. There are BMW's and Mercedes in the garages here.

So, I don't know anything about Crdoba, but my hunch is that you shouldn't pay more than $200 pesos per month for an individual room in a private student residence. Maybe even less. Bernal is pretty pricey.

maybe this seems a little pathetic... but if you're desperate, pride isn't worth that much anyway, right?

try mentioning "in passing" to some of your students about how difficult it is to find housing here for foreigners. (not in a whiny, begging, fishing for help sort of way, just non-chalant and casual). you never know, one of them might just happen to be looking for someone to rent his fully furnished, 3 bedroom $500 peso a month house to, or someone else might really like you as a person and offer to put up their place as a garanta....

i don't currently need a place, and i'm not sure what my longer term plans are yet, so i haven't followed through on these offers. it's possible that are empty argentine promises... but it might be worth a try if you have some students that you are friendly with.

I found a place for about 210 pesos a month, but it was more or less living in a dorm. I figured for just a little bit more I might as well continue to live in the hostel - while its like living in a dorm also, at least theres other people here to BS with while Im sitting around doing pretty much nothing everyday, save for finding a multitude of ways to beat the (not even summer yet but still scorching) heat of Cordoba.

I have a few private students now - albeit with extremely limited hours - and I have an interview tommorow with an institute, so well see how that goes. Im also trying to get involved in odd jobs as they come my way to supplement my (almost non existent) teaching income. Anyway, I plan on devoting a nice long post to life in Cordoba a few days or so, when hopefully Ill have either 1) a better outlook to report on or 2) just a reaffirmation of the present crappy work situation.

Cheers.
