A big piece of advice for people who are moving places and due to being in the midst of a lease arrangement need to sublet.
I advertised my place and explained in the add that we needed a 'genuine person' as we had found somewhere else we couldnt afford to continue the rent on this property so needed someone desperately to take it over by the weekend.
If a prospective tenant wishes to talk to your land lord directly be warned.
A british guy came along with his taiwanese girlfriend and after examining our apartment for some time, decided that they liked it. I explained that as we had found somewhere else we couldnt afford to continue the rent on this property so needed someone desperately to take it over by the weekend. They asked to talk to my landlord and a little bemused, I yielded and called him up.
He arrived and the british guy's girlfriend started talking away to him in mandarin - obviously oblivious to the fact that I could understand nearly every word.
She basically asked him what date we would lose our bond and that they wanted the place but wanted to renegotiate the rental price once we had lost our bond and the landlord was desperate for someone else - effectively trying to screw us - nice...
I told her in mandarin that I thought that this was unacceptable given I had taken an hour to show them around, etc. But i thought that was pretty nasty |
