I haven't gotten your list of schools, but am interested in any advice you have to offer. I have teaching experience, though no TEFL cert. or otherwise. Did you, or are you now teaching abroad? If you have any suggestions, I am really mobile. I can commit in August for a year or more. Whaddya think?

I'm in Peru. I think that if you can commit a year, you should be able to find a job, but do you have a degree or experience. COme with an open mind and things should work out.

Yes, I have a degree in International Environmental Science with a minor in Architecture. I nearly double-degreed in Spanish, but didn't think it would be necessary. I am having a hard time getting responses. Is it too early to be planning for August?

Yes, it's too early, Try around April or May. Remember that most schools want to personally meet you before offering you a job.

Often true. But remember that some, to arrange the visa, have to do it before you arrive. It's a bit of a catch 22, really. Frequently, schools make do with lots of email contact, and the occasional phone interview. Each shool is different, as is each country. I would REALLY like to meet teachers before hiring, but once they're in Ecuador, arranging visas is a pain and an expense. So I have to make do. Check the visa laws in the country you decide on, and if you decide to go before you arrange a job/visa, make sure it will be possible to do so once you're there. (Check with their consulate. Schools often lose track, given how fast procedures change in this part of the world)
