So the zealous custodians of cybermorality in the KofSA have blocked Amazon ! And this coincides with membership of WTO !

Free trade is okay - but not in ideas !

How about other book selling sites like Barnes & Noble. com?

I hear now that the US site is not blocked but the UK one is ! Strange since some 'anti-saudi' books were banned by the UK distributors but avaialable from the one in the USofA.

It's simply the result of a time-out at the proxy server, or maybe even your ISP's or KFUPM's server and the wrong error message showing up.

Put the conspiracy theory to rest.

When we try we get the usual warning that the site is blocked, so can that be a Time Out or the ISP ?

You can get it again now. I got the ISU blocked message and then while I was filling in the unblocking form I found out that it was now accessible!

There are varying other reasons why the blocking page comes up. The software is automatic so it can be triggered by something on the site (maybe the mention of "biblical DVDs" or "Sex and the City"), the IP address of the site can be that held previously by a porn site, or the cache might not have been flushed.

Perhaps they thought "Amazon" referred to scantily-clad, bellicose women. Wink

It's now unblocked again. And the offending phrases are still there, so it looks to me much more like a glitch in the software, unless Amazon.co.uk is using a set of IP addresses, some of which previously belonged to a blocked site.
