Someone wise made the point about the things that were part of a "package" not any more . We come over here for a specfic purpose and too many people these days try to deny us basic fundamental rights yet we are doomed to be denied them ,sounds like a rough deal all round to me .

Of course it isn't helped by the fact that there's so many teachers out there who probably can't even spell proffesinal let alone be one.

It's a vicious circle if you ask me.

It wouldn`t matter if all TEFLers were professional. The DOSes, education managers and owners would still pay crap, employ people they know are ''underqualified'' and treat them and the students like dirt.

By ''fundamental rights'' I suppose you mean sick pay etc. but at least one manager has publicly stated that that is ''the real world.''

Still it gives me hours of fun humiliating the so called schools and managers. I won`t spread my cheeks.

Obviously when you spent your short spell in the Gulf you did a Cihangir like thing and spent almost all your spare time with other ex pat teflers and lived in a little bubble. Having no interest or contact with the locals outside the classroom and little money has left you with little appreciation or knowledge of the language or culture.

When the Arabic script is changed into the roman alphabet, they often use the letter 'q' sans 'u' instead of 'k'-- thus Qu'ran, Iraq, Al Qaeda, etc. Iqama is probably the arabic origin of the turkish ikamet. Y'all neednt start mudslinging and getting panties in a twist over etymology.

How long ago were these dreamy good ol' days? I have a couple of friends who have been here awhile (15 years, 17years...) and thier stories of thier first few years here are far from dreamy. The money was good, but shared bedrooms with other TOEFLers in a big hostel type house, never an on time paycheck, nobody knew turkish, employer knew no english.... they say they enjoyed it because they were young and carefree, for most of it (one came over highly qualified w/ previous experience and the whole deal, the other one on an accidental night flight and decided to stay cuz liquor was cheap) but neither one of my friends would say the thier first jobs here were better than the ones they have now.
There was kind of bubble....8 years ago or so? money was great and contracts were solid, (another friend had a contract for part time work at a lang. school) but then the market got flooded....

I guess you haven't realized that nobody is humiliated by your boring, repetitive scribblings. Do they seem humiliated? You are the one who is constantly mocked and humiliated here. And you even humiliate yourself.

But please keep on doing what you do. It renders you completely meaningless and ineffective.
