Sad
If you can't take the drama, I suggest getting a different phone no, at least for awhile.

If a small part of you wants the drama to continue, just wait a week. She'll be back.

And buck up! At least you're in Turkey. It could be worse.

Back to the other question, I have my own 2 bedroom place. I think I make decent money here compared to what I was making in the UK.

But what do you consider 'decent' money? I am a college student right now, so anything more then $600 a month will be just peachy for my wallet. And I'm not much of a beer drinker, which seems to be the main hobby of a lot of TEFLers, so I will save money there. I do enjoy a nice glass of Aslan Sutu though...

Yes, I realized the requisite week was up.

I suggest being both happy and sad. It's a comfortable dichotomy: Sad that it's finished and happy that you don't have to deal with the drama. I mean, if she'll just up and dump you like that, do you really need the crap? Isn't it better to find out now?

I'm sorry. I sound like my mother. And I'm sorry you're sad. Again, I point out that you're in Turkey and it could be a lot worse. Many adventures await. And decent women who don't play silly games.

You mentioned in another thread that you write. Write a poem and stick it under a pile of stuff and never look at it again. I submit this haiku:

In love in Turkey
Comes with lahmacun and tea
And the beers are cheap

Cool
Go forth, brave soldier.

After 6 months of manic depressive stalking (after I ended our 2 1/2 month relationship back in June) my ex has finally declared that he will no longer talk to me because he saw me in a bar with another man (who was actually an ex student, but never mind) and I obviously never valued the time we shared. This isn't the first time this has happened to me since I came to Turkey. Consider yourself lucky that she hasn't followed a similar path. It's exhausting.

I had a couple of telephone stalkers-- one I hadn't seen for 6 or 8 months, but would try every now and again. He and my then-fiance wound up having a lovely chat (not being sarcastic-- they were genuinely polite to one another, then argued about football) and that ended that. The other one I hadn't seen, spoken to, or answered any sort of communication for A YEAR AND A HALF, but he kept trying his luck like clockwork every 6 weeks or so. After all this time passed, I guess he got his feelings hurt, and he gave out my no. to a bunch of his loser friends who all started phoning me to offer me money for sex and other assorted fun. I changed my number.

Yes, it's a headache.

Well the girls do not generally react like that, thankfully. My ex and I have not talked on the phone since it happened, and have only exchanged two emails. All of them have been along the lines of "oh you're a good person... have a good life... if you still move to Turkey please come and visit me" and blah blah blah.

Obviously I am still sad because, well, after two years she is not an easy person to forget: I moved overseas for 10 months to be closer to her, learned Turkish and about Turkey, and I planned a future to move there so we could be together. Now that the third will not be happening it is just hard for me to understand what I have been working for this past year especially. However, I am aware that if she acts like this now, then the future will probably only hold even more heartache, and I am already sensitive enough Sad

I should point out that I am not in Turkey right now - I am still in the USA, finishing up my BA. The plan was to move to Ankara in January, but now it looks like Istanbul. Anyway, thanks for all the advice. I know everything will be okay, I just hate this phase... hate the necessity of it all.

I make 2000 YTL salary for 30 hours a week and 18 YTL per hour overtime. I know people who make more than I do for fewer hours (doing private lessons for companies), but I enjoy working at my school.

Sounds like you'll be better off without the annoying relationship to deal with!

I have been working part-time jobs for so long that 2000 YTL would be alot for me, but the job offers I receive do not seem to pay that well. I've heard that since my BA is actually in English I am highly marketable, but I have not seen any proof of that. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places, but some people have recommended that if I just go to Istanbul and visit various schools in person, with my degree I could get hired fairly easily by more reputable and higher-paying companines. Have you seen any instances of this type of "job searching" being successful?

That's what I did this year. I got a job last year by replying to an internet ad, which worked out pretty well for me, but this year decided that I wanted to see what the school was like before I started working there. You can also do part-time with a couple of schools to see if you like them before you sign full-time - EF pays part-timers pretty well.

I'm sorry, but what does "EF" stand for?

I got 25 ytl working part time at EF this summer, after my full-time contract with them ended. The full time pay is salary and for a language school isn't too bad. I could afford my own 2 bedroom flat and saved money whilst living comfortably and going out regularly.

I agree that coming here and looking might be a good idea. I got my first job over the internet, which worked out fine- I lived in central Anatolia for two years and that was a real eye opener. My next two jobs I got because I was here and knew the people and places. My current job is my favourite so far.

Good luck.

I am still undecided if I want to agree on a job now, while I'm in the USA, or after I am in Istanbul. I guess it depends on how much money I have when I go to Turkey, and if I decide to take a TEFL certification course. I can only hope to land a job for 25YTL per hour right off the bat. Any idea of EF is currently looking for some help?
