Having a photographic memory is not such great advantage if you still can't remember the multiple on and kun readings, the stroke count and stroke order and the compounds these individual "pictures" regularly co-occur with. It's like knowing the face of everyone of the students in a large high school but not remembering anyone's name, how old they are, or who they hang out with! Very Happy

I bought a box of those Tuttle Flashcards out of Heiando book shop. I carried 20-30 around in my pocket, and got them out at the bus stop, while waiting for students, etc. I've so far learned about 300 in six months or so. I took the 3kyu in Dec and the Kanji was, for me, the easiest part.

Before this I took a kanji class and got practically nowhere. Now I simply learn to write the ones I need rather than useless ones like 'rice' which I've needed to write down. I keep a Japanese diary, by the way, to help me practice.

I recommend them if you want to study without putting in much effort!
