Quite true, ghost. I got paid as an Instructor to teach writing workshops, and I had a work-study position in the library. My loans/grant also more than covered rent, food, books, and transportation. Other colleagues worked as research assistants, foreign language teachers, or had jobs in the computer lab.
I also scored myself a job at the local farmers' market for a few hours a week-- all the OG produce I could eat. That was nice.... |

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. In general, mashed potatoes are the kings of vegetables. But expensive organic vegetables can be traded with other market merchants for things like:
Clam sauce for pasta
Fresh morel and sh*ttake mushrooms
Thai coconuts (creamy in the middle)
5 years later and I still miss that clam sauce....
