Legitimacy check: Anybody heard of these guys?
I just received an email from them, with a teacher's resume, and wondered if anybody knew what they were all about.
I checked their website, and they look medium to legit, although more of a "resume mailing" service than a proper agency. What they charge teachers looks lowish, and is probably fair. But I wondered if any of you Mexico types had heard of/had dealings with them.
Thanks,
Justin |

As much as I hate to admit it, yep, they stung me for a "resume registration fee". Never heard a single solitary thing back from them, not even a thank you for the cashola. |

Yes I got sucked in. I never read any of the previous posts and had success with other recruiting agencies so I gave it a try.One big clue should have been when I asked for a contact number so that I could ask some questions but was told to just maintain email contact. What was I thinking?
But now I can honestly say DONT USE TEACHERMEXCONNECT. They are so unprofessional and do not deliver anything they offer. I was interested in applying to Mexico, Spain or Chile where there are suppose to be more than 50 jobs in each country. After 3 weeks of ZERO responses I finally sent an inquiry and was given email addresses to send my own resumes to the school.
ALSO, before sending my resume, I wrote to all 3 contacts in the various countries stating that I was highly qualified and experienced and that I was looking for something a little more prestigious and higher paying than a language school and that 8000 pesos was not what I was looking for. I was assured that yes, I would be able to find such a job and they even advertise on their websites that most Mexican jobs pay 8 000 - 15000 pesos per month. Well, after sending my resume myself, the offer was 7 000 p per month. When I wrote to express my dismay at the fact that I had specifically stated that this was not acceptable I was told....
I am sorry but we can't be in control of the salary the school offers you. I am sure that you can understand that...............................
yes i can understand you cant control that but as a recruiting agency, isnt it your duty to know the general salary the school is offering and to match schools and candidates accordingly?????
The 60 positions or so on the site are in general around $800 US per month, do you want your resume sent to them or not?
Save your money. This company is so unprofessional and you can more than likely find their contacts through a general internet search. |

Hmmm. Doesn't sound great. But I have to admit, for the $20 they're currently asking for on their website, I wouldn't expect much. Is that what you guys paid.
Regards,
Justin |

I think their fee is $20 which is kind of hit or miss.
I was recently shocked to find out what Internetworks charges! They also offer a "do it yourself kit" for three times more than my monthly grocery bill. I'll give you a list of school for that much if anyone wants to pay me. between all of us on here, we could put together a pretty good list. If we charge US $150 for it, and split it 15 ways, we'd only have to sell ten of 'em to make 300 each! |

I would be very careful of this organisation too.
I sent them a email recently outlining my qualifications/teaching experience and to request further info about their services.
In response I received the following:
After reviewing your credentials, I am sure you are able to secure something in Spain. At the very least in the ESL sector. We do not have any more specific details about positions other than what is already listed on our site.
If you would like to continue with the process, please go to our Steps for Resume submission on our site.
Even if you are applying for all countries listed on our site, you only have to send your resume to this address [email protected] which is the same as our PayPal address and just remind us in your email which countries you are applying to.
Best,
Rosalba Lopez

Not enough info to persuade me to send my CV.
Perhaps, they are not really looking for teachers. I wish them well. |

That's too funny Joeldew. I received the EXACT same email response only I was dumb enough to send my money. Needless to say, I am still freezing my butt off in Canada.
Once again, don't get sucked into Teachermexconnect. |

Just catching up on all the forums here and being the curious sort, I checked these comments out. First of all, the pooling information idea sounds like exactly what TeacherMexconnect claims they do, minus any follow through (they clearly ripped people off and there is always discussion about it periodically on the Mexico forum) The continued checking up on the schools would be the time consumer in this venture, making sure the information was accurate and the schools still exist.
MOD EDIT
BTW, WOW I'm impressed - you are a thrify grocery shopper if you can feed a family on $50.00 bucks a month. We spend close to $200.00 a month for the two of us and I thought we were doing well ($50.00USD a week) Care to share your secret? |

Just an update on my experiences with these guys:
First, since they first made contact with me, they have been sending me a regular stream of resumes. And some of them have been pretty good. Haven't actually hired any yet (I'm fully staffed right now) but can't think of any reason why I wouldn't. Have corresponded with several, and some seem quite good. Several of the ones I've been corresponding with did eventually take jobs in other countries, with schools that (I believe) they were put into contact with by Teachermexconnect. I guess I think of these guys as a remailing service more than a selection agency, and I'm always happy to have an additional recruitment resource. Thanks, guys.
Second, I will admit that I found it a bit shaky that their website says that they handle communication with schools for you "in Spanish." The first email contact I got from them was in pretty poor Spanish. Granted, to be fair, it was short, and looked hasty. And typos happen to us all. But in all the CVs I've received from them, they have encouraged me to contact the teacher directly. Now, if a school needed contact in Spanish, how would that work?
Third, maybe one way to get the scoop on this would be for whoever works for Teachermexconnect to tell us. Come out come out wherever you are? I'm convinced that one of the Teachermexconnect crowd is somewhere to be found on this forum. We'd love to hear your side of the story...
(I had never heard of this organisation, until the day after I posted my work email on this sight. I don't mind it being used in this way, you understand, but it makes me think that somebody around here knows more than he or she is telling.)
Come on out, now,
Justin |
