I know there have been lots of posts regarding Visa's for Argentina but these seem to apply to US citizens only.......
I'm looking to move to BA in March for a year and will look for work teaching English once i get out there. I called the Argentine Consulate in London who advised me that i would need a work visa, but could only get one if i found work before moving over there. How strict are they regarding Visas? Would i be able to go over there on a tourist visa then extend it?
Any help from holders of a British passport would be much appreciated! |

Well the situation, I assume, would be the same no matter which country you are from. As far as I know the work visa doesn't discriminate against race per se!!
Anyway I'm from the UK. I arrived here in July and have been working without a work visa. As I suspect nearly every English teacher here is in the same boat. I just came here and found a job when I arrived. It is all paid 'under the table'. I doubt you'll find an institute who will be prepared to sponser you for the work visa when so many people just work here illegally. But working for a school or University well that might be a different story. |

it is nearly impossible to get work before you get here.
you can't get a visa without a job.
in order to work legally, you need a work visa regardless of where you're from.
almost all english teachers work illegally.
you get paid "under the table"
no taxes for you, no taxes for the institute. |

Hard as it may seem to believe, Migraciones really don't seem to care about illegal working.... you take the option of crossing the border every 3 months or the $50 overstay fine. About 40-50% of Argentines get paid "under the table" (en negro) so it's really not an issue for most employers. |
