Are there any reputable certification courses in the U.S. that offer housing during the course? I'm thinking about finding a place here in the states to take a course this summer, but I need a place that has somewhere for me to stay while I take it and offers job placement assistance afterward. Any ideas. Thanx, guys. L8r.

I don't know about in the States - but my guess is that they will ALL provide some assistance in locating housing or will at least have a list of reasonably priced apartments near their school.

I did teacher training in Thailand for a while and all the certification schools offered some help with housing. Yours won't be an unusual request - just ask - it's one of the first things everyone from out of town asks about.

Don't take guarantees of job placement assistance too seriously. Many/Most of the better jobs overseas will be available only to those on the scene. Employers get swamped with resumes and enquiries from people overseas - who never end up showing up. They get tired of it and quit looking seriously at those candidates. Why would I hire an unknown person overseas - when the guy/gal sitting in my office right now seems just fine?

I also read of one TEFL program that offered a money back guarantee on their job placement. To get your money back you "only" had to provide 200 rejection letters. A daunting task at best - impossible in reality as probably 90% of rejection is a failure to respond (you just never hear back from the place you sent your resume to). And how can ANYONE guarantee your placement? Maybe you are a terrible interviewer? Maybe your resume states that you just got out of jail for child molesting?

The best job placement assistance - Dave's ESL job adverts, Tefl.com jobs list - and the local newspaper wherever you want to go.

There is a distinct advantage in taking your training in the country where you would like to teach (I know you didn't ask this) as you are on the ground and can often speak with many people about the job scene there - AND job hunt as you take the course.
