Ha ha!

I'm here and I love it! (and this isn't just for the benefit of the people I work for and with!)

Arrived last sunday evening and it's all been lovely since then! I haven't found a flat yet but am being put up by one of the other teachers and her cats!!

Everyone has been great and I feel really good about my choice of job acceptance!

So thank you to everyone who helped me out. And no, I haven't found any horses yet, but I did see my first ever real life camels on Thursday on the way to Muscat!!

My advice to anyone considering Oman (after a week of being here) is to give it a go! (Oh the enthusiasm's sickening isn't it?!)

Hello Tarka,

Glad to hear that you like it... ahhh the honeymoon period. There certainly is much to like about Oman. Keep that positive attitude to help get you through the frustrating patches that will certainly appear now and again.

Good luck with the flat search!!

I remember when I first arrived in Oman and a friend drove me over to one of the beach coves near the Bustan. It was so gorgeous that I remember thinking: "They PAY me to be here???"

Best of luck.

I went to Al Sawadi last weekend with a couple of people I work with ("Hello" if you're reading this! People are keeping tabs on me now they know who I am!!). We went snorkelling and I saw my first ever turtles!! It was amazing! So I'm now looking into doing a diving course!

I'm enjoying being here and am looking forward to getting a car and being able to go off exploring. Also still looking for my own flat but have moved in with some people for the time being so the pressure's off a bit.

Lovin it!

I remember not too long ago having an idyllic moment at the beach then going to seaside Starbucks for a morning expresso and thinking "Man, I could really live like this!" then realizing "Oh! I AM living like this!" My "honeymoon" is long over, and still I don't want anywhere else. Wait until you see the phosphorescent plankton lighting up the waves at night - it's like swimming in stars! Magical!
Not to mention the scenery and the people and the food. And my job is great.
Sure, like anywhere there are a few things I'm not happy with, but overall I plan to stay here as long as I can.
Once you get really established, make sure to have dinner with some friends at the Chedi hotel. Not cheap, and way-in-advance reservations necessary, but I promise you will have a meal to remember. Imagine Omani architecture combined with a Zen ambiance.

Well, honeymoon period could have ended but am still loving Oman.

Went on a camping trip to Tiwi (near Sur) with some friends a couple of weekends back and saw the glow in the darkl phytoplankton - which was amazing!
Have seen some fantastic things, and will continue to do so I'm sure.

Thanks to everyone for putting my mind at rest about being here.

Hi Tarka,

I had been wondering how it was going for you there. Glad to hear that Oman's many charms are still working positively. Cool

Did you ever meet up with any horse people?
