I've been here for three weeks and so far food wise theres nothing that I have hungered for that I havent been able to get/
Dentists are fantastic, Got my teeth whitened, 4 Shades for 1 million dong,, A crown for 1000million , cleaned for 150 thousand, I'm rapt.
Glasses I paid 700 for in Aus, Here hve been quoted 200 Aus dollars for multi focal nice frames but maybe not light weight plastic lenses but I need a basic pair for work so Im not complaining, but yes I know, how cheap frames can be I bought a cheap pair of frames in China (about 40 dollars Auz and they lasted about 4 months)
I bought my Disc man with me and set it up with speakers great for music in the bedroom.
Great selection of music much better than China, but the DVDs are shit compared to China.
Ive been catching motor bike Taxis, only 3 have been fast and scarey, Non have so far tried to overcharge me on the motor bikes yet. Try to have a trip to Hoi An soon after you get here as I think thats the place to get shoes and clothes made.
After China I find it a lot easier though I miss the good public bus system in China it certaintly made it easier to get around. Can't comment on the heat as I live in the Tropics in Auz so I manage, but certaintly bring enough clothes to get you through a weeks worth at least of changes. bring your favourites so they can copy them. Dont buy a lonely planet you can get a copy for cheap, and you can get a good range of copied books. After China where any English books were almost impossible to get, here is a dream.
I'm female, so if any women out there can put me on to a good dressmaker in Ho Chi Minh that doesnt cost the Earth would be greatful. Plus am living on the Edge of district 5 and one, would like to know if anyone knows of a good massage place around here.
Good luck |

Electronics and computer items are a must buy outside of Vietnam. I recommend South Korea (Yongsan, South Seoul) for the best prices, quality, and selection; but it is probably not the best option for everybody. Flying there and knowing how to negotiate a bit could pay for your plane ticket if you are looking for a laptop. Thats how expensive they are here. As for everything else, you can find nearly anything you want at a good price in HCMC at least. Just takes a bit of asking around until you find where to find what your looking for. |
