Hello again --
I am in need of a medical checkup, complete with documentation (to provide as proof) - where can I go? As a foreigner, do I pay for it and how much is it? I am near 6th of October city, so I considered going to 6th of October hospital but have been told that it'll be more expensive there. Does anyone know where I can find a relatively cheap and decent hospital in Cairo for this?
Thanks again,
A |

Ally,
If your check up is for your visa, then that loser school should set you up! All you need is proof you are free of HIV. Anyway, As-Salam hospital in Maadi on the Nile provides relatively good service, at a reasonable rate, and the test results/reports are all in English.
With respect to working on a tourist visa - DON'T DO IT. Call the Canadian Embassy in Garden City...they'll tell you. It costs a minimal amount - like 40 LE - seriously - but crap schools always try to save on the visa and thereby jeopardize your position in Egypt. My friend packed her bags and told them she'd go without a visa...imagine, the next week all was arranged!
Many schools have a doctor come to the school to draw blood for the AIDS test. You must, however, show your face at that nasty immigration office at Tahrir Square for the visa to be issued. A nightmare - go to window 41, then to window 45 to buy a stamp (like a postage stamp), then back to 41 for them to stick it on the form. A make-work project beyond belief.
Hope you're surviving otherwise! |

Thanks for the tip - will do. And the medical checkup isn't for the school, but for an application for school here (I'm considering).
As for working on the tourist VISA - the other way that it may be explained or rationalized is that because our pay is so low, we're "volunteering" and being paid a small living stipend... This is the way another teacher has rationalized it to me - I've been asking around.
Thanks again,
A |
