I am of the strong opinion that Fairytale of New York is the greatest Christmas song ever (carol or otherwise).

Slade's 'Merry Christmas Everybody'. (Lyrics below)

Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody

Are you hanging up your stocking on your wall?
It's the time that every Santa has a ball
Does he ride a red nosed reindeer?
Does a ton up on his sleigh
Do the fairies keep him sober for a day?

So here it is merry Christmas, Everybody's having fun
Look to the future now, It's only just begun

(That's enough of the lyrics, I just realised it might be cheeky to reprint the whole song: brilliant song and a great live band when I saw them as a 15 year old at the old Apollo in Glasgow in the early 80s).

jp is right!
Its such a great educational song, too. (For immigrant Irish New York couples, anyways) Twisted Evil

They've got cars big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It's no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

I've always been rather partial to 'Father Christmas' by the Kinks.

Father christmas, give us some money
We'll beat you up if you make us annoyed
Father christmas, give us some money
Don't mess around with those silly toys

While we're on the slightly more amusing Christmas songs I always get a kick out of 'Merry Christmas From The Family'. I'm sure there are lots of versions but I've heard it done by the Dixie Chicks and Montgomery Gentry. Funny stuff...

Mom got drunk and Dad got drunk,
At our Christmas party,
We were drinkin' champagne punch
And homemade eggnog
Little sister brought her new boyfriend
He was a Mexican
We didn't know what to think of him
Til he sang Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad

And so on,

Jingle bells, Batman smells

Robyn laid an egg,

Bat-mobile lost it's wheels

And the commissioner had to pay, hey!

I'm very sorry, but my favorite Christmas song is "F*ck Christmas" by FEAR. HA! Woo hoo! Merry Christmas everyone!

Don't despair,
Just because it's Christmas

Children act
Oh, so gay, at Christmas

All the children,
On the street,
Hope to get something good to eat
But for me
It's not so great,

*beep* Christmas!
*beep* Christmas!
*beep* Christmas!
*beep* Christmas!
*beep* Christmas!
*beep* Christmas!
*beep* Christmas!
*beep* Christmas!

And that's the whole song.

I've forgotten the title, but there's a good Monty Python one. (to the tune of Jingle Bells, probably downloadable somewhere.)

Ho, Ho, F@cking Ho,
What a crock of Sh@t,
We all work for Santa Claus,
we've had enough,
We quit.

We do all the F@cking work while he stars in the show,

Stick you christmas up your @ss, ho ho, F@cking ho.

And so on. All the teachers sung that one together at the staff christmas party at a school where I worked a few years ago. The boss was rather offended, for some reason. Go figure.

But for in class use, Rudolph, Jingle Bells, We wish you...., and Silent Night, are my favourite carols for young kids.

Weird Al's "Christmas at Ground Zero" can be good fun with teens.

What christmas songs do you use in class?

Justin
