My husband has twelve months paid leave due in 2007.
During this time we are thinking about travelling to Vietnam or China and was thinking of the possibilities of teaching whilst there. I have a Bachelor of Economics and a Grad Dip in Education with a minor in Special Education. I am currently working lecturing at TAFE level and working with Aboriginal people teaching literacy and numeracy.
I have two children who would also be coming with me (daughter 6 and son 4). Do any of the schools provide accomodation suitable for families?
With my husband still being paid his Australian wage money would not be a high concern but we are interested in doing this for the experience.
Does anyone have any advice - schools, preperation prior to going etc? If we do go ahead I really would like a stress free experience for my children more than anything else. |

With your qualifications you'll find work no problem. Good schools will help you with housing if you ask them, and things are quite flexible here so you should be able to negotiate whatever you need.
Regarding your concern about your children adapting, it's difficult to give advice there. Maybe if you take them on a holiday here you could get an idea of whether they'll enjoy it or not. It might mean a bit more time spent indoors for better or worse, at least during the week. |

I have only seen one (CEC) Canadians-only school which actually provides housing for teachers. If you ask, I am sure the schools would help you find housing if you are teaching there on a near full time basis. The housing issue in Vietnam is an easy hurdle to cross, but you would probably be on your own as far as providing for it. Rents are very reasonable for teachers unless you live in the downtown area (HCMC-District 1) or in a business district (Phu My Hung-District 7) |
