Wondering if anyone can give me some info on current positions in KSA (pref. west coast) for a native speaker with an MA in Applied Linguistics (TEFL) and a Cambridge CELTA.
I've got three M's in my bag (Male, Married with 3 kids, Muslim), and have got some experiece teaching in Jubail and Dammam (SAFCO) - albeit only 6 months.
If there are any posts that would suit someone like me, could someone send me a PM?
Cheers!

I had 2 years exp teaching Arabic in the US and almost every school that I applied to told me that I didn't have enough experience teaching English. In the end I got very lucky and got a job at a government school. But I think the only jobs that you will be offered w/ 6 mos teaching experience are at third rate private schools where the hours are long, the conditions terrible, and the pay lousy. You'd be better off getting some more experience elsewhere and then looking for work in the kingdom. |

Re your reply to an earlier post I assume you were working for the European Centre in Jubail. Could you go back there? |

Scott.... same job (european centre) split into two contracts (3 months in Jubail... 3 months in Dammam)...
Tomton... don't wanna go back to EC cos i've got a fam with three kids and they don't offer any iqamah's (or didn't when I was there)
Have you got any contact details for JIC?
Cheers!

MY FIRST POST
Substance:
Stephen Jones ... a regular poster here is the man to talk to for details at JIC. He's the guy who sends out application forms for the place. Give him a buzz. I'm sure he will be more than happy to help.
Any probs... let me know.
Best regards, Z |

PM is disabled here for some reason.
Try Taibah University in Madinah. Details at www.tesolislamia.org on the job board.
If your kids are school age you might prefer Jeddah (King Abdul Aziz University), Riyadh (King Saud Univeristy) or Dhahran (KFUPM), since you will probably not find a reasonable English medium school in Madina. The Manarat branch at Madina closed last year.
Saudi universities are desperate for teachers. They do not advertise because they are run by civil service types whose interest in work is confined to showing up on a daily basis and signing in. Recruiters are active in the summer, but they normally just visit one city, say Tunis or Damascus, and cast about for people. Last week I saw a big file of applications someone had collected in Syria.
There is no central recruitment agency so you may apply to several simultaneously. You'll get about the same salary and benefit package regrdless of where you end up.
You are qualified. I just recommended an applicant last week, with an MA in English lit from India and less than two years part time experience at an Indian university. |

Sorry for replying so late - not sure why I failed to check this thread again, even though I was the one who started it!
Thanks Ootii for the info. I've just mailed Taibah and sent scanned bits and pieces (hopefully the email won't be left on the server for a year or two).
I'll probably try KFUPM and some others tommorow.
Thanks again to the others that contributed to the thread. |
