|
|
I have managed to memorize a number of Kanji in my day. HOWEVER, and it's a big however... It has all been through real-life experience as opposed to a true understanding.
Basically I mean I've managed to memorize the Kanji I needed to know when I lived in Japan.
Anywho I really want to formalize my language skills and prepare for the JLPT Level 4/3.
Does anyone have any tips/methods they use to memorize? |

Remembering the Kanji by James Heisig. It's a controversial book, but you might want to try it and see if it works for you. |

JLPT 4 is only 80 Kanji.
JLPT 3 is only 165 Kanji.
You have a year to study for the exam, so there should really be no sweating it. If you divide up the Kanji for level 3, you could learn one kanji every other day and still finish in time.
As for how to study the kanji, do it like the Japanese do - write each kanji out on a piece of paper about 100 times each. Say it outloud, think about it hard when you are writing it. Know the basic compounds (can be found in kanji reference dictionaries). If you need a mnemonic device, try this book |

one of my friends had this sort of nail polish pen for writing kanji on his finger nails. He would do 5 new ones a day on his left hand. It seemed to work great. However, I have no idea where one can buy these nail polish pens but perhaps someone else will know of them. |
