Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts/experiences on working for MIL and/or how Chiba is itself...regarding all aspects: things to do, culture, nightlife, etc.
I've been teaching in a smaller city (140,00 people) in Korea for the past year. Some great cultural experiences (temples, folk dramas, indepth Korean immersion etc). Must admit I miss mutli-cultured food options the most. Also, a very small expat community (maybe 10) whom I never see.
A busride to Seoul(about 1 1/2 hrs) helps me get my fill of diversity, which is great.
I've been to Kyushu(Fukuoka/Nagasaki) and both cities were the best, not only in Japanese 'life/culture', but in that there were just enough foreign options.
I realize that living/teaching in Japan should not be thought of as 'what else does it offer'. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts to share.

Can't answer your question about life in Chiba, but if you do a search on MIL, you'll find a few items that might help.

From my memory, very positive feedback about these schools. The website is pretty informative too.
Do a search anyway, more accurate than my memory.

The school has been operating for almost 30 years and has a good reputation. Teachers are treated fairly and always paid on time. The owners are involved in the day to day activities and care about giving their students good value for thier money. I know several students who have been going there- some for more than 10 years.

Hi. I just checked out the website for that school. In looking at the apartments section, it seems as if they are quite generous in their housing. Those apartments are quite large for one person (I'm assuming that they are for one person) and 50,000 or so yen is a good price. I'm living in an apartment half that size for 86,000 yen, but it's central Tokyo in a popular area.

As for Chiba. It's not too far to come in to Tokyo, but the trains stop at about midnight. So, if you want to stay late, you'll have to wait till about 5:00am to catch the train home. Chiba has a large population, so there must be some good spots around there. I'm not sure because I don't really have any reason to go out there, except to visit Costco in Makurhari (highly recommended).

Good luck!

Thanks all for the info. In checking past posts, it looks like MIL is a pretty good organization to work for overall.
