Tepotzotlan isn't very big...nice choice of place to live. You will probably fare much better by siply going there and walking the streets to see what 'for rent' signs are up.

Wait..isn't Tepotzotlan in Morelos state...close to Cuernavaca?

It's easy to confuse Tepoztlan (in Morelos near Cuernavaca and home to all sorts of New Age activities, along with a beautiful 16th-century monastery/local history museum) with Tepozotlan (in the State of Mexico, not too far from the DF, and home to another Colonial-era monastery/Museo del Virreinato).

does anyone know if there's a newspaper in Tepo that would have want ads? i can walk and drive around and ask people

yes, the two towns are very different! i've been to my Tepo once and, read a lot about the one near Cuernavaca; that one, in Morelos, sounds like a fun place to visit

i'll be north of DF in the state of Mexico, the one with the beautiful, historical cathedral on the zocalo

btw, the mercado at my Tepo [on the zocalo] has some quality products for sale at very low prices, according to some friends who live in Tepo and have shopped at various mercados in the greater DF area

While I've never been to Tepozoltan (but I have visited Tepoztlan and Tesoztlan several times each Wink ) from what I know about smaller cities in Mexico, your best bet will be walking around asking people. Especially in corner shops. If you find an area of town you particularly like, ask around there. When you see a building that looks to be divided into several apartments, ask there. When you see a place that looks empty (the renters usually provide their own curtains and so take them with them) ask there. Basically ask everyone you talk to. A couple of years ago I was looking to move from an apartment to a house (I have dogs) and that what I did. Everytime I bought something, I asked, By the way you don't know of any houses for rent? I got replies from many people I almost didn't ask, waiters, taxi drivers, shop owners, people who stopped me on the street to ask me the time, etc. With this technique you can probably find a place in 2 or 3 days. My city has a small want ad type paper that comes out every other week, by the time for rent ads apear, the places are usually already taken.

Good luck,

thanks, Melee, for the details on looking for a place; neat tip about the curtains!, and for putting my mind at ease about renting with dogs, knowing you found a place; most of my friends here are very discouraging about taking my dogs and think i should just dump them off somewhere, but they're my fur-kids

thanks, Tim, for the info about the Toyota dealership in Merida; if there's one there, no doubt i can find one in Day Effay

Very Happy

i've learned a lot from lurking here, so thanks for that!

Just a quick note queenie,

My dogs are Mexican. I know that my parents dog would never had adapted to the lifestyle of most Mexican dogs. Laughing

In my town most landlords are open to dogs, they see them as a security feature, and in a cement and tile building, what's there to distroy?

hi, Melee,

how do most Mexican dogs live? outdoors? do you put yours out on a chain?

a tile and cement building can be "warmed up" inside with decorating, for as long as i have the poochies! tile is gorgeous! difficult to destroy -- that's a good point.

i looked at one beautiful place about 20 minutes outside of Tepo west of town, in October; it was a wood and stone house with lovely antique furniture, so of course no pets were allowed there; we were lucky enuf to stay there a couple of nights since the dogs were in the US

do you have a back yard for your poochies to do their business, or do you walk them somewhere, Melee? are backyards, even tiny ones, common in Mexico?

did you buy your dogs or rescue them, Melee? what breed(s)?

regards,

Queenie
