Hello!
I am planning a move to Santiago in July after my current contract is over. Does anyone have any information if this is a good time to come to get into teaching? Also has anyone ever heard of or worked for Comunicorp? Also I most likely will be moving by myself and was wondering how easy/hard is it to find shared housing? and one more....I have a dog and he has traveled with me no problems before have any of you brought your pet with you to Chile? ok any help with these questions would be much appreciated!

I found shared housing really easily. I just went round the universities, looked for adverts for "Piezas" and then e-mailed/called the various people to arrange a viewing. I am paying $120.000pesos chilenos per month. I think that is about $US180. That is with all bills and a group of lovely chilean architects included. |

Hello there,
I worked for Communicorp in Santiago and I must say that I didnt enjoy the experience, mostly because I didnt get along so splendidly with the owner. But, I recognise that my case was exceptional, as all the other teachers seem quite happy. There are a lot of well organised resources, the center itself is very nice and really close to the metro. What I appreciated most was that the administrative staff, are extremely friendly and helpful and the other teachers are too. The pay that they offered me was only a couple hundred pesos more than what they offered practically next door, but you could always try to negotiate.
I wouldnt say that July is THE BEST time to come because its in the middle of the school year, but I think Santiago is a good place to find work at almost any time of the year. I found work here in September.
I wouldnt worry about people eathing your dog, though. Really. It may be a developing country, but people here arent cavemen! I havent lived in the sounth, but Ive visited a few places. One thing I will say about dogs is that there are a heck of a lot of strays on the streets, both here in Santiago and in most other towns Ive been in.
