Has anyone found work in Verecruz. It might be interesting to work there. I think it is a bit more expensive than other parts though. |

if you're talking about the city, it's overpriced and not particularly beautiful at all. the historic center is nice, but it's a port first and foremost. the beaches are subpar for mexico, the city is dirty and rundown, but the people are friendly and the vibe is quite nice. still, i don't quite understand why it's priced as high as it is.
if you're talking about veracruz state, that's a different matter. much prettier, much cheaper, but not much going on.
good luck! |

I've heard nice things about Cordoba, Veracruz. A brother-in-law lives there...no idea about work though...it's not a big place. |

Sorry to be a wet blanket. I really like Veracruz (city and state) but I'd give Cordoba a big pass. It's worth a day just to see the center (zocalo) but go one block in any direction outside the zocalo and you're in boringville. In fact when I worked at the Tec in Cordoba almost all of the teachers lived in Fotin (a village about 15 minutes away) because they couldn't stand Cordoba. It's not an awful place, it's just that there's no breathing space (the streets are extrememly narrow and crammed with cars and buses) and basically nothing going on. Orizaba is a much better option if you have to choose between the two, but Xalapa is really the only small city in the whole state with much going on. At least that was my impression after living there for a year and constantly asking people what to do.
i have to say these places grow on you if you somehow find yourself spending a lot of time there, but when you travel to other states you will realize that mexico has much more to offer. again, the port of veracruz is very enjoyable but i would never describe it as beautiful. the state of veracruz is very beautiful but i wouldn't really describe it as enjoyable (excecpt perhaps xalapa and orizaba, of the places i know). that's just my take on it and i'm sure plenty of other people will disagree.
by the way, there are language schools in cordoba and veracruz where you could possibly find work if you didn't mind not earning a lot. |

I've been dying to go on a rafting trip in Veracruz as I've heard it's nice. Perhaps not like a Canadian rafting trip, but there are monkeys to see! Anyone gone on such a trip there? |
