There was a post about Teachers Latin America TEFL course. This post was closed after one reply from Guy what is kind of strange I think.

I am very interested if there are any other persons who had good or bad experiences with Teachers Latin America TEFL courses.

Just wondering why you are checking up at this particular point in time and at this venue, since you apparently have already been doing business together for a bit? What are you hoping to discover and what difference would it make, just out of curiousity?

Wouter, contrary to the beliefs of some, or one (?) we don't advertise or recruit on or through Dave's, so there might not be a lot of responses here. It would be nice to get feedback this way, rather than by email or amazon write-ups though.

Wouter runs the Guadalajara Language Center in Tlalquepaque. I can let him explain the 'business' we have together. If Wouter is on the ball, he should be posting here to find out if it's a good idea to have Teachers Latin America interns or course grads working out there.

Samantha, try not to have this thread deleted will ya? You don't seem to understand that more info, good or bad, is a good thing. Stifling conversation because you deem it recruiting really denies a chance for everyone to participate. Profgzmos post was really valuable to have up...something for me to learn from. Same for cwc's post on Gypsy.

If people post here and detail their bad experiences with TLA, then great. We are all the wiser and my employer learns to work harder and better, as do I, offline. If people post here and detail great experiences with TLA, then great as well...it gives me an idea that some of us here have done a decent job.

The Guy says: Samantha, try not to have this thread deleted will ya?

Guy, your moderators can tell you why your thread vanished, and that I have had nothing to do with the fate of your posts, so don't use me as a scapegoat. There was no flame war as you claim, either; that too is a matter of record and an insult to the moderators that deleted it. I followed the entire thread and it was far from a flame war. I vote for a sticky on Profgizmo's post, not a deletion...but I am pretty certain the moderators find this whole charade as tiresome as others do. Please tell us if you own shares in this forum at the ESL Cafe because you certainly act as if you do. Shocked Otherwise, once in awhile just leave room for other posters opinions and thoughts.

Play nice now! Although there may have not been a "flame war," there was certainly a lot of potential to get nasty and it was going in that direction. (including my contribution Embarassed ) There is a thin line between information and opinion, though. What I found objectionable was that the post wasn't really a "review." And there should be room for Samantha and others of us to demand a little honesty from posters. If someone wants to rant or vent a little, fine. Even if someone wants to do a little "recruiting," that's actually fine with me, as long as they are straightforward about their intentions. Wouter said he was interested in others' opinions, and that sounds fine to me, but cwc (are you still out there?) was pushing the limits.
It's also possible that not a lot of TLA TEFL alumni are not posting to Dave's, but feel free to prove me wrong!

I'm not sure why my post doesn't qualify as a review. I wrote of my experiences, and tried to keep my feelings out of it, except perhaps at the end where I did put my opinions in. This is the first time I have been able to get back to this site. It seems there was a heated discussion on the newbie site, but that thread has been deleted for some reason. If anyone has a copy of those posts, I would love to read them if you could email or PM me. Guy seems to be a nice guy and I'm sure he has helped a lot of people here. He just didn't help me. I hope my post doesn't get deleted too, I think it serves as a good reminder to people to be careful who you do business with. You can only know a person or business so well through emails

Playing nice is playing honest...information and opinion go hand in hand as dialogue. Good and bad, on any topic that arises. Charade is what you get when people hide their financial interests in jumping on a bandwagon, eh? Yes, I know who you are.

Straightforward would be most refreshing. Profgizmo gave us some of that.

Guy, Let me be clear on this once again. I won't be drawn into a personal battle with you either privately (as you already know) or publically. Disagreeing with you is like wrestling with pigs, you get kind of dirty and the pig likes it. I suppose by more of your uncalled-for personal inuendo or accusations (which actually came across as a veiled threat this time), you are trying to get this thread locked up or deleted too. Now knock it off. I know who you are too. Wink We've both been in Mexico and on this forum for the same length of time. Now let's just agree to disagree.

Uncalled for personal innuendo...is the reason I don't let your posts go unnoticed.

How does one respond to the things you've written? The distance between all of us and the nature of such a forum make for a lot of misunderstandings to be sure. What I've never understood is why you single me out...I rail against shady recruiting in here just as much as you do, but I do it differently. I think intelligent discussion about facts is far more revealing than wild guesses and assumptions.

How do you suppose it feels when you post a bit of innuendo that is so off the mark it draws righteous anger? At the very least, allow a person, be it me or anyone else, to respond. Anyone can attack or defend whichever employer, course provider, recruiter, etc that gets mentioned on the forum...and that's the way it should be to get the best information out. That's the point of this being a public forum, right? I post in here to get this information because it's relevant to both my job and to me, in order to have the correct information to give out when asked, again, either in here, or as part of my job in Mexico City.

As I've said before, it was a great service to see profgizmos post put up. Such posts come up all the time for all sorts of organizations, and they should stay up. I'm not going to be a hypocrite and say that it's okay for competitors to be slammed and not Teachers Latin America. If something comes up for i-to-i, or a school in Bushwack, Mexico, and I have a bit of knowledge about it, I'll toss it in, as balanced as I can. If I know nothing about it, I don't post. When someone jumps in, and starts muckracking for no better reason than to crusade, or attack a competitor under false pretenses, that's when things get locked down. Flaming.

Just to see how it works in an intelligent discussion, there's a similar thread on a different forum where TEFL International is addressing the concerns of complaining customers. So far, no one in that discussion has gone over the line and none of TEFL Intl's competitors have faked their way into the conversation, though there is potential.

Samantha, why not cut to the chase? I'll make some guesses here...
You don't like TEFL course providers. You don't like the job I have. you don't like that I post here so much. You don't like my avatar. You believe that I post here a lot in order to recruit for Teachers Latin America.

Well, I do like my job. I do post here a lot. I put my real name and my real pic up because that's who I am. I'm sensitive to the fact that there's potential for me to recruit here. So I don't do it. What do I have, 3500 posts? They are still there to read and I think if you do, you'll see that I rarely get to even mention Teachers Latin America. You'll probably find a few posts where someone asked and I answered. There are a couple of posts from way back where I did mention our courses here, without being asked. When I was newbie here, I did get a little gung-ho about it.

My point here is that you don't give me a chance to be Guy. You frame everything in the light of my employment. That's always going to get my hackles up.

Hello, just wanted to let everybody know Im OK. Cdaniels was kind enough to ask about me. I have been spending a lot of time at the beach on my two paid weeks off. I have been trying to spend all my bonus. It is difficult to spend 2 weeks pay and a bonus of 4 weeks pay in 2 weeks, but Im trying. I have a week left to do it. I bought my kid a small motorcycle that he loves. Did everybody read my report on our Christmas party? BTW, Congrats Sinaloa for being the most dangerous state in 2005. Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will tell you from experience that pigs do not enjoy being handled! Since they are herbivores, any handling is interpreted by them as an attack. Some breeds of pigs can squeal louder than a jet engine! Pig raising is one of the many skills I have aquired. Rolling Eyes I will let the rest of Samantha's comments speak for themselves. I may be mistaken about profgizmo's post, but it is my opinion that he should have left the "last part" out. I will be very busy myself soon and possibly unable to stir up trouble here. Will someone besides the prof who went to the program bail us out here? Anyone?

Smile Has someone been drinking this pre-New Years Eve? Excellent! Acting and reacting - it makes the world go round. Okay then, back to watching my non 36 inch flat screen mega-buck tv, listening to the ZZ Toppers and trying to spend what I didn't get for aguinaldo. HOWEVER, I am riding my new little moto (on credit of course) like a bat from hell, hair straight back for another week. Ah....only in Mexico. You will be glad you came, because it's hard to explain otherwise.

Enjoy your trip to Mexico and do check in with us regularly with progress reports.

P.S. No fair CDaniels...you (or someone) edited your post as I was typing!...My answer won't make as much sense now...Oh well... Happy New Year and travel safely!
