I notice that most ALT positions list a paid vacation time, but none of the listings I have seen neither clarify the length of vacation or when the vacation occurs.
Does anyone have any information about the ALT vacation time? |

The legal paid vacation is 10.5 days after 6 months service, 11 days after 1 year. This can usually be taken any time school is not in session during the main holiday periods. I don't know about national holidays for ALTS. Holidays are New year/Christmas break. Golden week and O-Bon. |

| Standard vacation time for JET ALT is 20 paid vacation, some sick days (these varies from prefecture to prefecture...in mine we have 30 days), and all national holidays. Some prefectures are more, some are less (I only get 12 days, but my schools do not require me to come in during school vacations, so I actualy get almost 3 months paid vacation every year). I'm not to sure what dispatch companies are offering. It should say in whatever contract you have. |

It really depends on the company as well. Some of them require you to do office time even when schools are out of session. Some leave vacations entirely up to the school that you are dispatched to.
I'm using the words "dispatched to" loosely here because most teacher dispatch companies don't have dispatch licences and can't legally dispatch teachers. Schools also can't receive teachers from an unlicenced dispatch company.
In any case, set school vacation time should be entirely separate from your yearly allocated vacation time. That you can use whenever you wish, even during the school term. |
