There are many private language institutions in Istanbul. To name a few:

English Time (ET)
Interlang (run by ET)
Dilko
EF
Deulcom International
Wall Street
Berlitz
Kent English
ILM
Antik (are they still there)

These are just off the top of my head. Google isn't very helpful. Google helped me find:

Oxford House College
The English Centre
International House

Anyhow, there are probably a lot more than this. Having taught at several of these, my preferrance is English Time. This is my humble opinion. There are also the 'real' schools and universities which may or may not require a Master's. I hope this was helpful.

It would be more helpful to devise some kind of ranking system of the language schools I mentioned, but such as system would probably end up just highlighting flaws and problems as experienced by some teachers. That's human nature, I guess - we're more likely to discuss a place where we had issues than a place where we were actually satisfied.

This site also lists a number of schools, 35, with addresses (physical, not web).

Thanks Dave ,this is my first post.
Can I ask if that list could be extended to include places outside Istanbul, maybe Ankara or even Izmir?

If you click on that link, it also lists some schools in Izmir and Ankara. I also checked our venerable Master's List, but unless I missed it, there were no links for the private language schools. Not too many have web sites, ET does, Berlitz does, but I haven't checked the others.

Regards.

sandy, Antik is long gone, became City of London College, and then we bought it. Dilko is going, ILM is too. Someone else may know about Deulcom. There's also Interlang and Gokdil. Of course I agree that ET is the best Smile

Sandy: Is there a way to see that site you gave the link for in English? I don't read Turkish yet. I looked for something to click to change it all to English but didn't see anything. Also, do you have links to those other schools you listed? I found English Time, but I couldn't find the others. Thanx.

It's tough to keep a list like that updated, as schools are constantly changing - different owners, different names, or just closing down. I looked for a list in English, then gave up and entered the Turkish.

As Molly pointed out, and what I remembered from the now defunct Job Info. Journal, Antik is no longer with us. This tends to be why there is no TEFL directory that is reliable. Or in English.

Sorry. Wish I could be of more help.

Watch out for the evil manager..Karen... at Wall Street in Erenkoy.... She is a back stabbing, two-faced troll.. Everything is fine..until you stand up for yourself..then she will get rid of you quick.. stab her in the back first.. that is the only way to handle someone like her.. Twisted Evil
