Hi, everyone. I'm a new member and poster to eslcafe.com. I was a Peace Corp Volunteer in Belize until this past July. I studied Spanish in Guanajuato, Mexico for a semester. At the end of the semester I felt a desire to travel more, yet stay in a Lat. Am. country. I made a good friend from Panama while in Belize so decided to go to Panama. I'm in Panama right now and have been here for about 2 weeks.
Unfortunately I don't presently have any experience or certifications for teaching English, but am more than willing to go through a course or program here in Panama if it exists. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might go about initiating myself? Are there any credible schools here that have training programs for potential teachers? I don't much like the idea of just jumping into teaching English without any qualifications and would much prefer to receive some instruction. Advice? Suggestions? Thanks in advance, Nathan |

At the moment I'm following up a possible opportunity in my carrer field, technology, so I haven't really looked much yet for ESL jobs - outside of this post. However, if this present job opportunity falls through, I may re-takeup the search, as I really want to stay her. I'll post if something happens. |

Yep, I'm also looking for work here. I have a lot of experience, the qualifications needed and have already met with a couple of schools. One offered an awful $5 an hour with a lovely 40% payment at the end of the 3 week course and the other 60% 10 days after handing in the students grades...arghm...PASS! The other was well located with nice facilities, it sounds like they're keen though it seems usually part time work is initially offered which may make getting by difficult with rent approximating 400 bucks. Will keep you posted.

Well, the technology job worked out, but the pay is very very low, though it will be enough for me to keep myself afloat. Once I settle a little more I may start looking into some part-time English teaching in order to supplement my income, and to just be more active here and get to know more people and places. |
