This post is actually an attempt to assist my girlfriend; I would appreciate any advice and guidance you can offer! She is teaching a lot of hours this month so I have decided to attempt some of the research for her. She less than two months away from completing her current contract in Seoul, South Korea. She has a bachelor's degree in Russian from Dartmouth and a master's degree in TEFL from Monterey. She has two years "teaching teachers" in Poland with the United States Peace Core. She now has three years teaching both adults and children within the Republic of Korea.
What types of posistions will she be eligible for? What will she get paid?
How long does it take to obtain employment? How long to receive a VISA? |

With an MA TEFL and 5 years experience, she could possibly get work at Zayed University ( http://www.zu.ac.ae ) or Higher Colleges ( http://www.hct.ac.ae ) or United Arab Emirates University ( http://www.uaeu.ac.ae ).
These are all government institutions with excellent pay and conditions, salaries in the range of AED10,00-14,000 per month (5 years would put her at the lower end of that scale), acommodation and annual air-fares provided.
Look at the web-sites and apply online in the next month or two for an August start.
PS. She couldn't guarantee that any of those would put her in Dubai. ZU has campuses in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, HCT has campuses throughout the emirates, UAEU is only in Al Ain. With ZU, you can express a preference but get no assurance till the offer is made. With HCT, I don't think you even get to do that. But the rest of the UAE is also excellent to live in - in many ways better - and the whole country's not that big, so don't limit your (or her) options unnecessarily. |

Thank you for the quick reply! Her current contract in the Republic of Korea will end at the end of February. Do you know of any schools or universities that would employ her sooner? |

The academic schedule in the Gulf is the same as in the US. The vast majority of new hires arrive in August. A very few places may need people for the second semester, but that begins end of January at most places. (they would have been hired and likely on their way already)
Her timing is all off I fear...
Right now they would be taking applications for August 2006 with most hiring completed by May. Paperwork and visas are normally completed so that they can arrive a couple weeks before the semester begins.
