They're so cute, except the middle one. He's too big and he just looks out of place. Maybe if he closed his mouth and made a sad face then he would look a bit better. |

Do you suppose the forum moderators would be interested in this behind the scenes smear campaign (which is clearly libel)? Libel laws in Mexico are very interesting in one main point. Libel is a criminal offence here and under Napoleonic law is not a pretty outcome if convicted. Someone living here, especially a teacher claiming to have double degrees surely would not be this dumb.
BUT, so as not to hijack this thread and get back to the original query, many people come here not knowing for how long, or are undecided at the onset. That's what life is all about. And after living here awhile, after clearing the usual hurdles, you get into the mindset of taking life one day a time. Some fall in love, get married and just hang around for the rest of our lives. Others run out of money, get frustrated (which can certainly happen to those of us that stay on, too) and go to plan B which usually includes going back to home country. It is a fond memory for those teachers that can embrace the differences in the culture. I recommend it highly! |

God has blessed me with a wonderful life, and hard work has given me a lot of opportunities. Little gnats, like the one carrying on his backdoor PM campaign, aspire to have the same, but don't want to do the footwork. Instead, they try the brown nose route or try to knock down others, hoping to take their place.
Samantha, if you want to pursue it, I will help. My preference is to let it go, and chalk it up to another victory for mental illness. |

Not sure why, but I had an overwhelming urge to listen to No Rain by Blind Melon as I read through this post |
Why? Because of the video (features a little kid stumbling around in a bumblebee costume, IIRC)?
Or because of the lyrics...

All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
I like watchin' the puddles gather rain
And all I can do is just pour some tea for two
and speak my point of view
But it's not sane, It's not sane
I just want some one to say to me
I'll always be there when you wake
Ya know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today
So stay with me and I'll have it made
And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there's no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape
escape...escape...escape...
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
ya don't like my point of view
ya think I'm insane
Its not sane...it's not sane.

| Samantha, being unhappy doesnt preclude your going back. Playadelsoul does have legal problems and is so proud of it that he posts the fact. Mark, get off the drugs. Quit denying your addiction and get help. Big E |

I think the dog owners on this forum who are also digital camera owners (hello Melee and Guy!!) should make their own dogs dressed as bees contributions!
Or, to keep it Mexican flavoured... dogs dressed as mariachis! |

Jokes aside, I think the original topic is useful, maybe I didn't answer it in the best way, though at this point I have no plans to go back.
But my husband and I were talking the other day about it, he's planning on starting his PhD next year, and might go abroad for it, the countries being tossed around include the US, Canada, Spain, England, Russia, Cuba. These are countries his MA profs have connections with so that's what makes them options. His English level is pretty high, so that opens us the US, Canada, and England. Of those, the US would be the best, because while he wil get a scholarship from the Mexican gov, it wouldn't be enough to support the four of us, so I'd still have to work, and in the US that wouldn't be a problem, as I'm a citizen. But what would I do? I could teach ESL or Spanish at highschool, except I don't have a state teaching license, but some states are desparate for teachers and temprorily waive the requirement right? Or I could try to find something else that requires Spanish speakers, as on some days, I actually speak Spanish better than English! I'd love to work on an MA in pure linguistics myself, but I'm adverse to debt, so I think I'd rather wait until husband is finished studying. |

Hi Melee, I'm in a similar financial situation where my partner is studying and I was trying to figure out whether I could start my Masters degree or not. However I dont have the added time constraint of looking after little'uns!
Then during the school holidays last year I met a woman who is now working on her PHd. I told her that I really wanted to start a Masters but financially it was difficult. She told me something, that if you really want to do it, just start with one paper and you will find the money somehow, either through a scholarship, grant or personal loan! So I took her advice and I'm starting this February! Why wait? Good luck |

Hi Melee,
One of your comments struck me as interesting, about your husband starting a PhD and the Mexican government paying for his (out of country) studies. Part of the reason I am in Mexico is to explore the possibility of doing a PhD as well. I am actually a Mexican citizen, although I grew up in the U.S., and have a bachelor's and Master's from there.
I've looked into the possibility of enrolling at UNAM, because of no tuition charges (so I hear), but...if the Mexican government is funding external studies as well for its citizens, hmm.
Anyway, how exactly does all that work? I'm sort of out of options regarding getting funding in the U.S. My master's degree is basicaly a truncated PhD where I quit before finishing up, blowing the fellowship I had. It was many years ago regardless.
