I just have a question about train fares to Hong Kong. I was wondering how much it costs to travel from Beijing to Hong Kong directly in RMB? Then how much in HK$ does it cost to get from Hong Kong to Shanghai? Also does anyone have the timetable for these two train services? Where do you buy a train ticket?
I know it would be cheaper to get the train from Beijing to Guangzhou then take a train from there. Likewise when coming from Hong Kong get the train to Guangzhou then catch a connecting train to Shanghai. However now is Spring Festival, and I am in no mood to battle to get a train ticket. So I am willing to pay the extra just for the comfort of being able to get a ticket. |

Thanks for the replies. So I have the fare and the timetable. As I understand every second day there is a train from Hong Kong to Shanghai. Where would I go and buy the ticket from in Hong Kong then? Can just go to Hung Hom station and buy a ticket from there? Also do you need to book this train in advance or can I just show up and get on the train providing there are beds available? |

Well I have found the answers to my above questions by looking at the website that dandan provided.
So now I know the procedure where to buy the ticket from the Hong Kong to Shanghai part of my journey. So what I need to know now is the Beijing to Hong Kong part. I know the train departs from Beijing West station. But where do I buy tickets from? |

The Hong Kong forum is probably not the best place to find out where to buy tickets in Beijing but I can take a wild stab in the dark for you. If you want to buy a ticket for a train that goes from Beijing West Railway Station I imagine you could try buying it from the Beijing West Railway Station Ticket Office? |

Asked around a little bit and I found out where to buy the ticket from Beijing to Hong Kong. Since the train departs from Beijing West station, thats where you need to buy the ticket. The ticket office for that particular ticket can't been bought from the main ticket office. There is a special ticket office. Unfortunately I don't know that yet, all I know it's on the second floor.
Thanks for you help anyhow. |

Hi Goose ,
An excellent website for train timetables on the mainland and Hong Kong is www.travelchinaguide.com , just go down the web page to the transportation link. It has all the times, prices and full train schedules.

Goose, the ticket for Hong Kong is on the second floor in the Beijing West Station, follow the signs in Marndarin and English to the ticket booth. If you can't get a ticket to HK try Shenzhen.
To Shenzhen:
K105 departs 23:56 at arrives 05:36
T107 departs 20:30 at arrives 20:00
costs around 450RMB
T107 is faster and I think it is cheaper to go to Shenzhen rather than to HK and cross the border. |
