Hi,
We both teach in Beijing, but are travelling south during our winter vacation. We'll be arriving in Hong Kong in a few weeks (staying in Kowloon). We've heard that Hong Kong is a great place to find really good clothing for cheap. Does anyone have any recommendations (shops or markets selling samples, second-hand, whatever). We'd appreciate any help.

Have a look at the following information:

I've picked up some real bargains, great clothing, all less than $50 -- lots of designer labels or at least very good quality -- in Wanchai near the Southorn Playground.

Isa boutique in Tsim Sha Tsui is pretty good. It stocks designer clothing around 30 - 40% cheaper than the usual outlets. Get the Tsuen Wan MTR line (the red line) and get out at TST, exit E. It's right next to the MTR exit.
Because it stocks end-of-line stock, they mightn't have it in your size.

Afterwards, head over the road to the ChungKing Mansions and get yourself a dead cheap curry. Don't worry about trying to find the restaurants - they'll find you!

Right now of course, there's the the big pre-CNY sales on, so even the fashion shops can be pretty cheap this time of year.

And then if you want real cheap, there's always the MongKok street markets, but you do get what you pay for there, and it can be a bit of a lottery. I've had some things I bought from MK last more than a year, whilst others only a couple of months.
