Hello

I would very much like to learn about how to secure employment at a Russian university... I currently teach ESL writing courses at an American University, but I would welcome the break and the experience/travel in this most interesting and dynamic of destinations....

As long as you are a native speaker and have a TEFL Certificate (which is really easy to get), you can apply to most job postings online in RUssia for English teachers. Experience is a bonus, but there are plenty of jobs which do not require it. Good Luck and message me if you have any more questions.

Perhaps more experienced people may correct me - I've been a regular visitor to Russia rather than teaching much - but I think teaching in a university is rather different to teaching for a language school. You may get off the beaten track (i.e. away from Moscow and St Petersburg) and work somewhere nice. On the other hand, you probably won't get the enviable income (from the locals' point of view), so it will probably only be ok if you're supplementing an income you already have. One other point: corruption has become endemic in the Russian education system. Not only may you be offered bribes to give people 'good marks' but you may be frozen out or bullied for not accepting them (in the latter case, I mean by the students). So it depends...

on the same thread as university jobs in St.P Can anyone tell me what sort of things can you expect? Pay, accomodation, visa support, working 5 or 6 days a week????????? as stated it wouldnt be the same as working in an English Language School. Sorry if this is somewhere else on the forum.

pay isn`t good, but I got my own apartment.
Sure, people chase after privates to make extra money.
Summer vacation is kind of long (June through mid/late September) so no university work at that time.
I had a good experience in Irkutsk.

I worked six days a week and was asked to teach one class on Sunday. I said no way.
I taught the TOEFL intensively, and professors, as well as intensive EFL.
My main class was in the chemistry lab.
