So Merlin, what's the excuse for a person who is lazy in a cold climate? Plenty of 'em. |

You get used to it. It's 26c in my office right now (7:30 AM) and it feels a little cool to me. Seriously, I wish I had a sweater on. |

| Merlin's reference to "New Years" got me thinking about why the sons and daughters of The Great Satan use the plural form. Given that each year is a single item, it defies logic to talk of "New Years". If you're referring to New Year's Eve, an apostrophe is required. |

Er, thank you for that, GrahamB. Was there ever any question that new year's took an apostrophe?

Hm, interesting. I think that those who want to sit in the tropics are bonkers themselves... I've never been able to get any good work done, mental work that is, when it's over 30 - 35 deg C, it's just too hot.
As for Poland getting dark by 2:30, don't know where you were, but the earliest it's gotten dark here is about 3:30, or slightly after.
Just coz it's cold outside doesn't mean it's not warm inside. Most places here are centrally heated, and are very comfortable, tho some people love to overheat.
I am born and bred in Australia, where it's quite hot. [New Years day this year was apparently around 45 deg C.] I've never been able to cope very well with the heat there, especially the hideous humidity. I like the cold, it only lasts a few months, and I like the fact that we experience 4 very different seasons, rather than 2 very similar ones like I used to in Sydney.
Snowfights and skating rinks lift your spirits. Life is beautiful and winter landscapes can be stark yet romantic and picturesque.

Lazy people in colder climates stay indoors more, which leads to depression, alcoholism and ultimately suicide or death in a alcohol-related home injury.
I make it a general rule to get out and throw a big hard-packed snowball at a pensioner at least once a day.

I myself was wondering what logic has to do with English speling and Grahmmer. |

| But what exactly is "New Years"? Is it the 31st of December, or the two, three or four days of festivities marking the beginning of a new year? Is it the new year in its entirety? |

If there were a market for trolling spellcheckers in forums Microsoft would be developing and marketing them.

About Australia - I never could get used to the idea of a warm-weather Christmas. |
