For now I am happy teaching in China, but I do plan on returning to Thailand some day.
In 1997, British-American (stop laughing!) got me a teachers license and W.P. They gave me copies of the license and W.P. and kept the originals. B-A refused to give me the originals when I left one year later.
I then joined another language outfit in Bang Saen and, purely with the photocopies of my T.L. and W.P., they managed to get me a new W.P. for Chonburi; I didnt have to leave and re-enter Thailand. My second employer told me that there was no need to get another teachers license.
About 1 year later another former B-Aer came to Bang Saen and one day the matter of teachers licenses came up in conversation.
He told me that on the day he went to B-As office to get copies of his T.L. and W.P., B-As photocopy machine was broken. The office girl gave him the originals and directed him to a photocopy shop down the road. He got a colour-copy of his teachers license, which he gave to B-A, and he kept the original; smart fellow!
My former colleague told me that there were, in fact, 2 teachers license documents; a 1 year duration document naming B-A as the employer and a lifetime duration document not specifying any employer; which is the one he kept and apparently the one I had a black & white photocopy of. The copy was ruined about 3 years later due to a massive water leak from the apartment above mine.
So, are / were teachers licenses issued for life? If so, any ideas on how I would go about getting a second (original) copy when I return to Thailand? |

Really a moot point mate as your employer will still need to jump through all the hoops to get their half of the TL....so you'll need to put everything in for this. So having one (and I think they might well be for life) doesn't really help you in any way at all.
I'd guess if you contacted the MoE they might be able to issue you it, but like I said there's no real advantage if they do. |

kenkannif knows his stuff, so this may or may not be helpful.
Found on Ajarn, the following FAQ excerpt & link.
I have no idea if it's up-to-date ...
kenkannif might know?

Q And you were saying something about teachers who've had licenses before
A Basically if a teacher has had a license before then when his new employer applies (more or less for permission to employ him as a teacher) he must supply various documents obtainable from the last employer upon leaving. These are, a Sor Chor 11, a Sor Chor 19, a Ror 12, a teacher's book and a Tor Tor 10. Oh, and a Ngor something or other 91 about tax, demanded by immigration if they remember. So when you leave a job in Thailand, try to get hold of these things, and then try not to lose them because they ARE important and they mean a lot to the people down at the Min of Ed, Labour and Immigration.

I think I helped write some of the FAQ.
Like I said though no real advantage....so a waste of time trying to get it IMHO! |

Thanks for the replies.
So, it would seem that when I return to Thailand I start from scratch! T.I.T.! |

Yes, basically. Although like I said even if you had it and hadn't left Thailand etc. it'd not make any real difference. |
