With so many Americans in Mexico has anyone had a job teaching Spanish as a second language to this population? I know there are many schools teaching Spanish, but can one get at job doing this in Mexico. |

I don't know immigration's policy about giving a work visa to a foreigner when there are qualified Mexicans available to do the job. Also, I wonder how many potential students believe (right or wrong) that a native Spanish speaker would be a better Spanish teacher than someone whose second language is Spanish and would prefer to be taught by a Mexican teacher. |

Just on costs/prices alone, I would think the perception is that a local teacher comes cheaper than a foreign one. You never know...maybe there are a lot of retirees who would prefer to have a countryman (woman, sorry) teach them. Doubtful that migra would issue an FM3 solely for that... |

It sounds a bit like selling ice cubes to Eskimos (sorry, Inuit). Why would someone travel thousands of miles to Mexico to learn Spanish... from a non-Mexican..? |

if the person were in a legitimate grad program here, i can see it happening. at the IEP where i taught, we had two non-native teachers. both were excellent, and typically taught grammar, TOEFL, or other classes that are particularly suited to people who had to learn English as a second language.
i should add that the pay would be horrible. |
