hello
I am a newbie applying for positions in korea. Is it true that is it better to apply for work thru an agency ( I have applied thru people recruit, has anyone heard of that?)
also is korea the better option ( to china and japan) if you are solely wanting to save money?
last question, what teaching books are best to take alone, I heard that word games and 'five minute activites' by penny ur was good for first time teachers?

Generally speaking - you can probably save more money teaching in Korea - than in Japan or China.
In China, wages are generally good on a local basis, but saving any real money would be difficult.
Japan can offer some decent wages, but start-up costs can be quite high.
Korea offers a happy medium (in my opinion). When I want/need to save money - I go work in Korea for a few years (My home is in Thailand).
For activities - I rely on Dave's Idea Cookbook on this site. Others will suggest many different books probably - but the Cookbook is my bible.

though it is still under construction.
Most people would recommend that you not use recruiters anywhere. That you can probably find a better position on your own - on this site and others.
That said, I found my first EFL job with a recruiter - and it all worked out fine. I am not knowledgeable about the recruiter you have asked about, but others here probably will be.

Interesting site, Ted. I will have mine up shortly.
I agree with Ted, Korea is probably a better place to save money than in Korea. Japan might pay more, but the cost of living is higher and if you want to travel around the country, there isn't a more expensive place than Japan. |

Without any experience you will probably be teaching in a hangwon, so it is a good idea to know how to entertain the kids. Many owners are mostly concerned about making sure the children come back. So if the kids are having fun then they are likely to some back!!! |

How do you suggest a new inexperience teacher go about 'entertaining the kids?" suggestion of books, games, websites, lesson plan site would be greatly appreciated.
