Bukowski,
Sorry bud - not an american. I am Canadian. I am not sure what the requirements are put in place in the states by the Chinese gov't, but that is why I said the best way to know what they will require is to check it out in person at the consulate.
The other thing to watch out for that happeneded to one of my Aussie coworkers was the date - your medical check is only good for 6 months. It will work for the consulate to get the visa - but once here the medical authorities will make you take the tests again.
As some of the other posters have mentioned it seems to vary from province to province - the simple answer to this is ' its China' and thats the way it works. No matter what you do to make sure everything is good - there is always a speed bump in the road to try and get around. |

HunanForeignGuy said it correctly - Chinese law and policy is subject to Who The Person is when it is interpeted and what part of China that person is in.
I have become friends with the guy at PSB who issues the visa. We have gone out for dinner and drinking beer. I have his phone number in my cell phone and he has mine.
When I need a new visa or favor do you think I may get a little more slack than the newbie just getting off the plane - especially with a folder full of American issued papers?
China is very much the Good Ol Boy system...When it comes to policys. |

Dear Jeff,
Thank you very much for the posting, Jeff. I am glad that you understand my point of view.
In your case, you will be looked after, for sure...you go drinking, he goes drinking with you, etc., etc. It's how it works. And some of them are personable, quite frankly. |

Take a close look at the "new" needles. Some are packaged in envelope type plastic bags that are not sealed. It would be quite easy for someone to repackage used needles in these wrappers and pass them off as new.
For that matter, someone could repackage used needles in sealed packs.
Needles can be easily sterilized. That they have been used before is not the issue. The question is, "Have they been sterilized properly?" The answer is probably yes, in most cases.
Bring some needles from the States if you are really worried about it. Go to a medical lab and see if they will sell you a few or explain the situation to your physician and see if he/she will help. |

Problem is is when you get ill you don't have a 2 weeks supply of IV drips in your suitcase . I bought needles from boots quite easily but have never used them . I'm pretty confident none of this so called repackaging lark goes on - especially in the big hospitals . Disposable needles are often used . I don't worry about this anymore . I suppose if you were in the country then that's a different ball game. |

2 weeks of IV drips? Extremely few illnesses that would justify 2 weeks of IV drips. If you really need that kind of infusion therapy, suggest that you get out of China or go to a major city such as Shanghai or Beijing.
IV drips are way over used here. In most cases, they are completely unjustified. Good way to get hepatitis though, possibly AIDS. |
