I am living in korea but coming to japan to travel and volunteer . . i have pu rchased a ferry ticket to Shimonoseki and then have an open Bullet train ticket to get to Tokyo from Kokura . . . Does anyone have experience or know how to get from the ferry terminal in Shimonoseki to the train statoin in Kokura . .
Also, has anyone ever had an open train ticket . . .Should I book in advance with this or can I just arrive at the train station and get on the express train without any problems??
Thanks for any advice . . |

You can just get on but if it is busy you may not get a seat but it is usually not a problem, when are you going? I have never taken that ferry so I don`t know where the port is but there is a shinkansen station in Shimonoseki so there should be no reason to go to Kokura to catch the train to go to Tokyo. |

Ask someone when you get on the ferry, I'm sure there'll be a lot of people who can help you. I was there 10 years ago, so my memory is a little rusty. Shiminoseki is a pretty small city, so it can't be far. Japan has a very efficient transportation system. You can bet there will be a bus waiting at the ferry port ready to take passengers directly to the train station (called an eki). |
