Came across a company on the internet. It's Shanghai-based, but I see no reason you couldn't deal with them from other points on the mainland by using a courier. They promise to convert visas legally without the need for a trip to HK. If they live up to their website, they could be the answer to many of the queries on this forum.
Look at: www.meshingchina.com

Oh, there are a handful of such 'services' that act as a go-between when in fact your employer should do that, or you could do it yourself. I doubt they can get a work visa for you unless you have a regular employer.
Getting your passport out of Mainland China, and back with a new visa - well, if you trust these guys not to lose your document! Plus, you need a photocopy for your personal identification in Mainland China, don't you? What do you do at a bank without your passport, or at a hotel reception? |

There are any number of "Mr. Fixit"s in the expat site classifieds, in amongst the good time girls, and probably offering a similar service to the said ladies: they aim to screw you and take your money.
This outfit at least are upfront about documentation needed, and their fees.
I agree with Roger that FAO's should do these things, BUT, judging by the number of postings on this forum alone, it's obvious that many don't. And then it's the FT left with the problem.
However, as with all these things, it's a case of caveat emptor: I'd be extremely wary. |
