Post Grad study in West any ideas?
Im trying to give advice to my students thinking of studying in Western (English-speaking countries).
Any thoughts, experiences that can help? Best countries, institutions, courses i.e. a masters level qualification or a lesser post grad diploma?
In particular interested in views of cost benefit - especially enhanced job prospects on return. |

When I was at Uni (as a Biologist), the postgrad labs were heavily populated by foreign students. Most of them were being paid for their PhD work. Those on a Masters invariably had to pay for their own.
I assume you have a range of students from different educational fields and if so it'll take you a long time to find out all the info that they all need.
Your best bet is to get them looking about for universities that are specialists in their own specific field, and look for projects or courses that suit them.
It is unlikely (without qualifying for a scholarship) that Masters wannabes will get a free ride, but most PhD work is carried out by students for a supervisor who is being paid, thus it pays down. Hope that makes sense. It seems that many PhD programmes are incorporating Masters units into the first year anyway, so if they end up dropping out, they don't leave empty handed.
Hope that helps for now. |
