Hello ESL gurus!!
I have my first interview for a ESL position in Germany and was wondering what to take along to the interview.
So far I have a few lesson plans that I used on students I tutored as well as a class lesson plan I have partly designed. I also have my passport, certificates, references etc. Is there anything I am leaving out??
Also what can I expect from the interview. It seems that in some country's the interviewing procedure is pretty lax, and others harsh. What is your experience of interviews?
Especially keen to here from people in Germany. |

I can't help the OP much because I'm not in Germany, but sometimes "teachers" come in off the street asking about jobs, and this topic is a good chance for me to address these types of people - please HAVE YOUR CV!
Some of you may not believe this, but MOST of the time, WAY more often than not, when someone comes into my school to ask me for a job, I just laugh at them and tell them to quit wasting my time. I am actually ALMOST that rude. Why? Because they have no resume, they have no references, they are dressed like they just finished with football practice, and then when they talk to me, I can't get a word in edgewise because they just babble incessantly.
Any single one of those things would prevent someone getting a job from me, and most people do ALL of them. Unbelievable. If you want a job, ACT like it. |

I think people who need to be told that are beyond help really hehe. It's common sense to bring a CV at the least if searching for a job |

Aspirin or alcohol either separately or combined, before or after, differing quantities, it really does not matter.
What does matter is that you go to the interview and find out for the next one. Be sure to take yourself to the interview and a dossier of your certificates and references and a list of your activity in the profession and before. That is all i ever take, unless otherwise requested. |

Why not simply phone ahead and ask them? They might actually appreciate that you're making an effort to be amply prepared. |

If you're a guy, you will have at least four pockets. More pockets are better, and I don't mean army pants. Make good use of your pckets. In your left pocket you will have some mints, and in your right pocket you will have a hanky so the interviewer will not be forced to use his or hers after you shake hands. In the left back pocket you will have a USB key with all your documents scanned in case you secure the job on the spot. The right back pocket will have a pen and a comb. In your hands you will be clutching a hard copy of your CV and a blank sheet of paper for notes. Please do not mention that you have a lesson plan partly designed by you. Do not babble. |

You're gone off the deep end, Gregor old bean. It would help you if you asked why they thought they could get a job with none of the above.
Perhaps there are other places that do accept such behavior, or invite the person back for a formal interview?
The fact is you're going to continue to get such people until you take a few aside and figure things out. And you deserve to be bothered and have your time wasted because you don't respect your own time enough to fix the situation. |
