Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but I remember reading long before I planned on coming to Japan that when it comes to business attire, a white and/or pale shaded shirts with single colour ties are preferred. Does this seem about right?
I'm not one of these people who wears pattern shirts and paisley ties but is it far to say plain is better? I used to have fun with business shirts and ties and colours. Always tasteful and corporate but a little more colourful that the old white shirt, navy tie. It was the only way to express oneself in a corporation of monotony.
I have no problem toning down to conform, I just want to know if that would be wise.

I guess it depends on where you're working. I know NOVA could care less so long as you are wearing a shirt and tie. |

I'll be working for ECC.
A little slow on the thinking tonight but maybe I should just email the co-ordinator I've been dealing with. |

IMHO, if you already have the job, and they want you to wear a shirt & tie, then giver er'! Have fun... Be colorful! Nothing wrong with that -- you'll probably get a lot of compliments. It's just during an interview that I'd shy away from something more colourful. |

I work at ECC so trust me when I say you should have no trouble so long as you wear a shirt and tie (no jacket required). Blue, green, red, white, yellow, pink, striped, plad.... whatever. No one cares as long as you don't look like a paint store threw up.
Relax and have a great time in Japan! |

Thanks for that Sage and Jim.
And Sage, who knows, we might even be bumping into each other! I'm posted in Osaka. |
