another question - I'd like to buy just a one-way ticket to come down, and then once I'm down there I'd buy another one-way ticket for my return. I'd do this because it seems to be cheaper than buying a roundtrip ticket. Anyway, will they let me into the country and give me the travel/vacation visa even though I won't have a proof of return to the US with me? |

Its not a matter of letting you nto the country without a return ticket, youll probably find that they wont let you on the plane to get out of the country (u.s.?)without a return or ticket out of CR.
I purchased a one way ticket, make sure its completely refundable, from San Jose to Panama for one month after i arrived. Then as soon as i arrived in SJ i went on line and cancelled the ticket and got a full refund on my visa.
The airlines will claim that they can be fined for letting you on the plane without onward bound tickets. They will not accept the fact that you might be buying a ticket on a bus to travel further. They need solid proof that you are leaving CR.
When i arrived in CR i was never asked to show proof of further travels or return tickets, but thats not to say it wont happen.
good luck
