Hi! I have done a search on this, and I have kinda found what I was looking for, but no links or websites, so hopefully someone can help!

There is a program in Alaska that will pay for your credential provided that you agree to work in a public school up there for a couple of years. I have seen a few threads/posts on it, but no concrete info. I think I actually found the exact link that I needed a year or so ago, but it is long gone, bookmarked on an old computer... Sigh.

Really, if I survive a Peruvian summer, two years in Alaska would be paradise!

Hi Denise
I have found since returning to the US that in matters like this, you are best off contacting individual schools directly and asking. You end up getting all kinds of wrong information (or getting completely ignored) by going to the local DOE. Look for some schools in the areas you are interested in working and just call them up directly and ask. They will put you on the right track.

Thanks! I just sent a few emails off to different school districts in Alaska. I hope they write back!

Denise--

What university is that through? I'd like to work in AK as well after I finish my MA, but not in a public school. Maybe the uni's up there have a need for ESL teachers in their intensive English programs for international students??

Why would you want to teach ESL in public schools (assuming you do)?

I dont think it is a uni. I think its the K-12 program. I am looking into that route just because there is more job security and stability that way. University IEP programs dont seem to be terribly stable.

The credential program... oh, wait! Is that the uni that you were asking about?... is through... I dunno! Thats why I posted here. You do your credential while teaching ESL, and they pay for your credential. If I get a solid link Ill pass it on.
