Good point. Has anyone ever seen a male chacha? Why? Could it be that the sexes are different? Dishwasher guy, do you have a chacha? Or maybe a chacho? Does your wife work outside the home? Are you actually going to say that you share EQUALLY in the domestic work? I invite all the women to post re: the sharing of housework. Women do housework and work outside the home. Men may help, but it is NOT 50/50.

Dishwasher guy, I didnt say that men or women were better, just different. Please read my post again and see if you can understand it. Why is it so hard for you to understand that there is a difference between the sexes. Would you be happy if we were androgynous? How would you like it if your wife called the shots in your family? Would you be happy if she decided that the family should move? I am certain that your family is not a democracy. YOU HAVE THE FINAL SAY. Somebody has to be in charge!!!! Even in same sex households there is a boss. Like it or not, we are all are different. cwc

No one said anything about men or women being better. I didn't say there wasn't a difference between the sexes. My family is a democracy, or to put it a better way, decisions are made by consensus.

You seem to have lost your train of thought.

My wife does indeed work, we share household responibilities, and we also have a woman come to help clean once in awhile.

CWC, what is it that's wrong with women making decisions for a family or household? and what is it that's wrong with consensus decisions?

There is nothing wrong with a woman making the decisions. However, I highly doubt if that is how your family works. A consensus also needs a final say. The problem is that you refuse to accept the fact that someone has to be in charge. Even in the best democracy in the world there is a boss with veto power. cwc

so my take on the difference in pay is the following....

the big schools want to be appealing as possible to attract as many students as possible to make as much money as possible.

foreign teachers are exceedingly appealing.
1. they are native speakers of english
2. they bring other cultures into the classroom
3. it is as close to sending their kids to the US, France, Japan or Canada to get an international education.

Having said that as well as remembering the basic economics principle of supply and demand. .The story on supply.......they want foreign teachers but foreign teachers do not live in their native country. The story on demand........foreign teachers live far away........foreign teachers need incentives to come to their native land to provide the services they desire...therefore....they get paid more.

Last issue on this point....a forieng teacher is often leaving behind a student loan debt or storage costs.....another reason for paying more.

We have a teacher at our school that was born in Mexico but grew up and went to college in the US.....he is paid as a foreign teacher becuase he is from the states and his english is perfect

Nothing to do with racism.......the mexican teachers get generous food vouchers that the foregn teachers do not get. Is that racism. I could look at it that way, but I do not.

Saludos!

All teachers, that work with me, start out at the same pay rate. They can earn more, based on merit and performance. Mexican teachers, in my experience, are much better at explaining grammar to Mexicans, because they know the right words to use in order to facilitate learning. Native speakers are better able to teach idiomatic English. A good staff will include native speakers and natives who speak English. Paying one more than the other, simply based on their birthplace, does not make much business sense, IMHO. You would have a staff that has envy as a starting point.

Hi,
I am curious about where this myth of foreign teachers earning more at ITESM comes from?? I have worked there for the last year and have seen the pay scales, it is simply not true!! Well, i can speak for GDL campus anyway. Your pay reflects how long you have worked with ITESM, your academic qualifications and nothing else.

It may be true of visiting professors, thats professors, not spanglish for teachers. But then, that is true for any country!!
