|
|
Hello All,
I have an interview this Thursday (9-2-06) with EF for, what I think is a summer teaching position, in Istanbul. I am currently a graduate student (Masters in Education), but will have about 3 1/2 months off and would like to teach this summer.
Anyway, when inquiring about the position (advertised on TEFL.com) I made sure to specifiy that I am applying just for the 3-month contracts and asked what dates these usually apply to. In our correspondence, I asked this question 3 times, but never got an answer.
My question is this: If these summer/3-month contracts do exist, does anyone know their typical duration or from what day, to what day? I am asking because I have to start school again in the fall (early September)and don't want to waste my time or EF's time if I don't have to. And I don't want to break a contract. Since, I asked this guy already three times, I thought I would try here.
If not, I'll just wait until the interview.
Sorry, this post is a little verbose.
Thank you. |

Which branch did you apply to? It's possible that either they dont know exactly when they will need you (ie they dont know who is leaving or staying) or that the summer contract time is very flexible. I worked for them last year and nobody really knew how many teachers were needed til around may or june when the non renewers had to give notice. |

I'm not sure which branch it is for. The ad on TEFL.com says positions in all 4 branches. I am really only looking for a 3 month time period, from the end of may to the end of august. For some reason I think I am being too optimistic about that because I don't think my hours could be gauranteed in the summer. I am obviously not doing this to make any money, but I do need enough to survive on.
Who knows? |

Not that anyone cares, but I had the interview. It went great. It was my first TEFL interview.
The summer contracts run from the beginning of June to the end of August for all branches. |

Best of luck.
Every year people ask about summer contracts in Istanbul, so feel free to share your knowledge. |

So I was offerred the position. Excellent! Haven't formally accepted it yet. It sounds like I will be teaching at the Suadiye Branch. I have read some things on this forum regarding this branch, but I am more concerned about where people might chose to live if they work in Suadiye?
I will only be there for the 3-month summer contract so I am sure I will be looking for a shared flat. Will this be easy to find for the summer? I know it's difficult to judge, but what can I expect to pay for rent for a shared flat?
Thanks for any advice. |

Suadiye is great because they are the only branch with staff accomodation, which you will definitely need if you are here only for 3 months. Also, Suadiye is where ı worked and I am pretty sure most of the people I worked with are still there and they are a really fun bunch. Lots of beers and hanging out after work in cafes and bars by the sea. Really chilled. Good luck. |
