Hello,
Good luck with your research.
I am curious about the sudden boom in interest in Chinese as a Foreign Language that seems to be sweeping the Americas.
Unfortunately, I cannot speak Mandarin. I have always wanted to learn it, but nay-sayers have always been quick to point out that it is a terribly difficult language to master due to the complexities of tone and the writing system.
In the US, we can't get the "non-Hispanic kids" to speak Spanish or we don't make much effort at it....How can we expect them to embrace a much more challenging language (IMHO) with much success ???
Just wondering out loud....
I am trying to learn Burmese (Myanmar) because "when in Rome..." AND, everyone keeps telling me that the masses in China will be speaking English with plenty efficiency soon enough...if it is economically to their advantage to do so...and I reckon it will be.
Cheers,
Nomad Dan |
