Myself and my missus are heading to San Diago then crossing the border into Tijuana in 2 weeks time.
Were both TEFL qualified I have 1 years experience and she has 3 years.
We've no definitive destination however, if anyone can give me an idea about availability of work and general start dates for academies ect. in the following locations: La Paz, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Oaxaca and the south west coast.
Cheers for ya help. I'm both excited about coming and nervous as hell. But I'm sure it'll all come out in the wash!

Guadalajara is probably your best bet. Very nice city that doesn't feel like the 7 million they say live there. PV, Oaxaca, La Paz do support ESL teaching but won't have nearly the number of opportunities you'll find in Guad for teaching if you don't have something set up already.
Time of year to come...you may just catch the end of hiring in private school English programs for children and highschoolers, but more likely to be in adult EFL. Aug, Sept is turnover time, so I think you'll be fine. |

Most of the public schools start next Monday (Aug 18th) but don't assume that that means they've already filled their English teaching position. There has been a recent push for English in the private Elementary schools as well as the junior high and high schools. But most of these positions don't pay well. Language Schools hire pretty much all year round, so there isn't really a "best time" in that buisness. I'd say you won't have a hard time finding something, and the longer you stay in one place the more oportunities will open up to change from the well-its-something type positions to better positions. |
