Just enquiring about the NET Program- any word on pay and chances if just 2 years teaching experience, B ED and Tesl certification? I am finishing a contract at an International School but I have heard NET is VERY competitive and many teachers have more than 10 years experience and post graduate degrees- is this true??

NET scheme competitive?
In a word:
NO.

PNET scheme anyways.
2 years ago they piloted running the NET scheme in primary schools. This was one PNET p/2 schools, alternating between them weekly.
Last year they decided on expanding the scheme to be 1 PNET p/school, thereby doubling the number of vacancies. Added to that, over 1/2 of the first lot of PNETs didn't renew their 2-year contracts. So that left the EMB with over 3/4 of the local primary schools without a PNET.

As a result they've dropped the standards needed to become a PNET. I know some new PNETS who have no teaching quals at all, just a degree and a TESL cert.

Which means that you've got no worries about being offered a placement.

ESF schools are also advertising for teachers right now:

ESF are sort of an international-type schools here in HK. The pay's better than the NET scheme and it's more like a proper teaching position.

I heard that it's not too difficult to get it.. but you need to act fast, they may already close the recruitment!

Blom, do you mean that it's easy to get a SNET position?

I got an incomplete application in after the deadline date(for Aussies/Kiwis)and I still got an interview for a SNET position. So I am picking that they may have struggled to get applications.

TL - not to mention, HK Govt is now putting more resources in helping Chinese-as-Medium-of-Instruction (CMI) schools develop students' English learning and related activities! So they definitely need more NETs!!

55% each year don't renew? I guess two years in HK is enough for many teachers. Does anyone know how many SNET positions there are?

One of the reasons that many people only stay for one contract is that two years is the longest they can stay out of there homeland education systems without losing benefits built up there. That is what I have been told at least.
